SPECULATIVE AUDIO - 2021

My design studio during my masters degree centered around design for non-visual senses. My project focused specifically on sound within domestic spaces. We often ignore the sounds in our homes, or tune them out through sensory adaptation, this project proposes that we should design for sound with more intent by extracting and highlighting speculative sounds in a collection of well known, or acoustically dynamic homes. This speculative design strategy should be used when designing homes as the sounds from both internal and external sources, be they natural, mechanical, human, or artificial, are becoming more and more tied to our day-to-day lives in our increasingly insular world.

The audio tracks presented here are designed from a speculative perspective. These are not direct recordings of the homes being represented, but speculative sound tracks combining existing elements and sound qualities with results from A Sound Survey linked below.

The video presentation above was presented as a part of the final review of this project before a panel of critics, after watching this video, please feel free to browse through the collected research and the different spaces and homes that were analyzed.
